Monday, September 30th was Orange Shirt Day. As a class we watched videos, and read books on the topic of Indigenous Peoples and residential schools. Our school had a museum set up in our cafeteria and we were able to visit it, and continue our discussions.

This week we've been working on the theme of gratitude. First, we brainstormed and made a list of all the things we are grateful for. Next, we started an art project using watercolour pencils and we are going to add a collage that includes a picture of each student, and the things they are grateful for. Finally, the students wrote paragraphs on this theme.

In Science this week, we continued to investigated the human body and looked at parts of the eye, nose and ear. Websites we've been using include:

Welcome to LEAD

Welcome back to a new school year at Ernest Morrow! Most of the students in our classroom have returned for a second year and we are happy to be sharing stories, and writing about what we did during the summer break, as well as sharpening our mental math skills. Fall has arrived! The change of our season was a focus of our learning this week, this included: reading comprehension, and the introduction of new vocabulary. The LEAD class continued to work on our multiplication facts this week in Math. We also now have a labelled life sized human body in our classroom, and will continue looking at the brain in Science next week. Our class explored something called, box breathing with Navy Seals as a means to feel calm and help us with our learning.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GZzhk9jEkkI Today was our Terry Fox run, and we were joined by the two high schools on our block, Forest Lawn and Jack James. Prior to the event we watched a few videos about Terry, and spent a significant time discussing who he was and why he set out to run across Canada over 30 years ago. This week we started a Science Unit on the Human Body. We learned a lot of new vocabulary, and are having fun using the website called Learning Chocolate to practice labelling. We also started Guided Reading groups, reading a common book to discuss and answer comprehension questions. Students continue writing paragraphs, using a word wall of adjectives we've compiled. Tonight is Meet the Teacher evening between 6:00 and 8:00 p.m. We hope to see a lot of families!
